Summary
This article explains how to sync a Microsoft Teams channel folder to your computer, allowing access through File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac). Synced folders are available offline and automatically update when you reconnect to the Internet.
Things to Know
- You cannot selectively Sync individual files––only folders).
- Microsoft Teams uses the OneDrive Sync client to sync Channel folders.
- Permissions changes in a Team may break Syncing.
Step 1: Launch Microsoft Teams
Step 2: Navigate into the Channel’s Shared Tab
The Shared tab within a channel is where all shared documents and folders are stored.

Step 3: Sync a Folder
Best Practice: Sync only folders or subfolders you actively use.
- Open the folder you want to Sync.
- In this example, the ITAM Inventory folder in the Operations channel is selected.
- Select More commands (…), then choose Sync.

Note: If the OneDrive Sync client is not installed, you will be prompted to install it. OneDrive is used to Sync files stored in Teams Channels.
Step 4: Verify Sync
- Open File Explorer (Windows) or Finder (Mac).
- Locate the Fayetteville State Organizational University Folder.
- Confirm that the synced Teams channel folders appear and are accessible.
