Simple Syllabus Support

Overview

Simple Syllabus is the University’s centralized syllabus management system that streamlines and standardizes the creation and management of course syllabi.

The Office of the Provost sponsors the Simple Syllabus platform and governs the University’s syllabus standard while Information Technology Services (ITS) provides system administration, training, and technical support.

Benefits of Simple Syllabus

• Efficiency and Consistency: Leverages available data to auto‑populate required components, reducing time spent on syllabus creation by instructors and ensuring consistency for students.
• Canvas Integration: Integrates with the Learning Management System, providing easy access for instructors to edit syllabi and for students to view them.
• Accessibility: Ensure syllabi meet accessibility standards in accordance with Title II of the ADA.
• Compliance: Ensures syllabi comply with University, UNC System, and accreditation standards.

Syllabus Release Schedule & Deadlines

• Release Date: Simple Syllabus syllabi become editable in Canvas when courses are made available to instructors, as defined by the Canvas Course Availability Schedule.
• Due Date: Syllabi are due 7 days prior to the first day of classes, as defined by the Policy on the University of North Carolina Academic Calendar and Credit Requirements.
